Volunteer Opportunities
There are many opportunities to volunteer at the Retreat. Please feel free to phone us to find out more, or to suggest something else you could do to help us help victims of family abuse. Potential volunteers are invited to attend our Volunteer Orientation meeting that takes place once a month, call 631.329.4398 for details.

Administration

Hotline
Although our hotline is a 24-hour service, volunteers are needed during regular business hours, Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm to:
- process police reports
- answer hotline calls from clients who may be looking for shelter, counseling, advocacy or someone to just listen.
Training is required as is the approval of the Retreat Director.
Shelter
- Storytelling with children
- Homework tutor
- Preschool activities
- Computer training for mothers
- Resume writing for mothers
- Babysitting in early evening so mothers can attend parenting classes
- Arts & Crafts activities
- Summer activities
Thrift Shop
- Sort through donations
- Pick up/deliver donations
- Work in the shop
Speaker Bureau
Speakers are occasionally needed to inform the community of the Retreat’s mission. If you enjoy public speaking this is for you! We will train you as to all the different services we have to offer so you will be well informed when you speak on our behalf.
Fundraising
- Organize & plan events
- Hang posters
- Stuff envelopes
- Assemble gift bags
- Sell raffle tickets
Education
Join our In-School Violence Prevention Education Program servicing schools on the North and South Forks of eastern Long Island.
- Assist educators during the presentations
- Help students with written work
- Train to become a program presenter
